Chelsea's Austrian-born Nigerian midfielder attracting concrete interest from Aston Villa
Published: January 01, 2025
According to Football Insider, Aston Villa are very interested in re-signing Austrian-born Nigerian midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka during this month's transfer window.
The 21-year-old has been deemed surplus to requirements at Chelsea, with the West London club ready to listen to offers for him.
Chelsea are unlikely to sanction a loan deal for the England youth international, as they are intent on offloading him for as much as £40 million.
Chukwuemeka has not made a Premier League matchday squad this season and has been limited to five appearances across all competitions, starting just once.
This explains Chelsea's willingness to part ways with the young midfielder as soon as possible.
While Aston Villa are keen to bring Chukwuemeka back, they are unlikely to meet his valuation, which could make a move difficult at this stage.
The midfielder left the Villans for Chelsea in 2022 after featuring in 16 games across all competitions for the club having initially starred with the youth team before earning promotion to the senior side.
Aston Villa have struggled to cope with the demands of both league football and the UEFA Champions League this season and are looking to strengthen their squad.
However, they face stiff competition for Chukwuemeka’s signature as Celtic and Premier League newcomers Ipswich Town have also been linked with him, while Crystal Palace could reignite their pursuit of the England youth international.
