'I can't wait' - Genk striker Arokodare fired up for Super Eagles debut, announces departure date
Published: March 16, 2025
Racing Genk forward Tolu Arokodare is thrilled to earn a spot in the Super Eagles squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers and looks forward to making his senior debut against either Rwanda's Wasps or Zimbabwe's Warriors.
Nigeria's new boss Eric Chelle has rewarded the former Golden Eaglets star with a maiden call-up to the senior national team following his imperious displays in the Jupiler Pro League.
The decision to pick him over Cyriel Dessers and Paul Onuachu is a strong testament to his quality and reputation.
Arokodare celebrated his first-ever call-up to the Super Eagles by getting on the scoresheet as Racing Genk secured a 2-1 win over Union Saint-Gilloise on Saturday.
With 17 goals from thirty appearances, the Nigerian is the leading scorer in the Belgian top-flight, placing first ahead of Adriano Bertaccini (Sint-Truidense) and Kasper Dolberg (Anderlecht) who are fourteen goals each.
Arokodare was overwhelmed with emotions after earning his first Super Eagles call-up and confirmed that he will leave on Sunday to join the Nigeria squad in Kigali.
In quotes relayed by voetbalnieuws, he said on Saturday night: "I still don't know how to feel. It's a mix of only great feelings for me and my family. I can't wait to put on that shirt. Tomorrow (Sunday, ed.) I'm leaving."
The battle for a striking position in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers sees Arokodare competing with Victor Osimhen, Victor Boniface and Ademola Lookman.
