'Best player of the season' - Galatasaray icon says Osimhen is better than ex-Chelsea forward
Published: April 06, 2025
Galatasaray legend Tanju Çolak has named Victor Osimhen as a strong contender for the Best Player of the Season award, ranking him above former Chelsea forward Alvaro Morata.
Osimhen, currently on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli, has been in sensational form for the Turkish giants, scoring 28 goals and registering five assists in 32 appearances across all competitions.
The 26-year-old has been instrumental in Galatasaray's domestic campaign, including a crucial role in their 2-1 win over arch-rivals Fenerbahce in the Cup—a victory that secured their place in the semifinals and kept their hopes of a domestic double alive.
In quotes relayed by habersarikirmizi, Çolak praised the Nigerian international for his leadership, commitment, consistency, and impact in front of goal.
"There is a squad in Galatasaray that is loyal to Osimhen. He sets a good example, he scores a lot of goals. Osimhen is the best player of the season," Çolak said.
In contrast, the former striker was critical of Alvaro Morata, who joined Galatasaray in January from AC Milan.
The Spanish striker has struggled to find his rhythm in the Super Lig, managing only two goals and one assist in five league games.
"Morata does not score goals, he does not fight. If it were me, I would not buy this guy," Çolak added bluntly.
Osimhen's blistering form has drawn attention from top European clubs, including Manchester United, Chelsea and PSG fueling speculation over his future.
With his Napoli exit expected next summer, his performances in the final stretch of the season could be crucial in determining his next destination.
For now, Osimhen remained focused on helping Galatasaray clinch a domestic double and finish the season on a high.
