Augsburg make transfer decision on Brentford's first signing of the Premier League era, Onyeka

German Bundesliga club Augsburg have made a transfer decision on midfielder Frank Onyeka.

The Nigeria international became Brentford’s first signing of the Premier League era, joining for a then club-record fee of ten million euros in July 2021.

In search of playing opportunities on a regular basis, the FC Midtjylland academy graduate joined Augsburg on a season-long loan in the summer of 2024.

According to Sky Sport Germany's transfer market specialist, Florian Plettenberg, Onyeka is expected to return to parent club Brentford at the end of the season.

There are currently no ongoing talks over a permanent move, with his loan from Brentford set to expire at the end of the 2024-2025 season.

The Bees decided to loan him out to give their young midfielders more game time, while the Nigerian was eager to play week in, week out.

Since his arrival at Augsburg, Onyeka has started twenty-seven of the twenty-eight games he was available for selection, registering two goal involvements.

In August 2023, Onyeka signed a new four-year contract with the Bees, with a club option for an additional 12 months.

The 27-year-old has appeared in 78 matches for the Bees, and has one goal and four assists to his name.
