'Osimhen not ruled out' - BBC reporter insists Super Eagles striker is still wanted by Chelsea
Published: May 13, 2025
BBC Sport reporter Nizaar Kinsella has revealed that Chelsea remain interested in signing Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.
Osimhen, who is currently on loan at Turkish champions Galatasaray from Napoli, has been in sensational form this season.
The Super Eagles forward has racked up an impressive 33 goals and eight assists in 38 appearances across all competitions, playing a pivotal role in Galatasaray's pursuit of a domestic double.
His remarkable performances have reignited interest from top European clubs including Juventus and Chelsea, with transfer speculation continuing to swirl around the 26-year-old.
Speaking on Chelsea's striker search, Kinsella revealed that the Blues are being cautious in their approach due to strong competition for several high-profile forwards.
"Chelsea are quite guarded on which player is most likely to join," he said on The BBC.
"One reason is that in Delap's case, for example, Manchester United are in the race. Another reason is Arsenal want a big name striker, with both clubs also looking at Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko and Sporting's Viktor Gyokeres."
Kinsella added that Osimhen remains firmly on Chelsea's radar, despite wage demands being a stumbling block during negotiations last summer.
"Even Victor Osimhen from Napoli (on loan at Galatasaray) isn't being ruled out at this stage, but Chelsea found his wage demands prohibitive when negotiating for him last summer," he stated.
Chelsea had reached an agreement with Napoli over Osimhen's transfer last year but failed to finalize personal terms, leading to the striker's loan move to Turkey.
As the summer window approaches, Osimhen will look to maintain his outstanding form and help Galatasaray secure the league title and Turkish Cup — further boosting his stock ahead of what could be a career-defining move.
