Official: Brentford announce signing of talented right-back Kayode on five-year deal
Published: May 28, 2025
Brentford have officially confirmed the permanent signing of Italian-born Nigerian right-back Michael Kayode from Fiorentina on a five-year contract, with the option of a further year.
The 20-year-old initially joined the Premier League club on loan in January 2025 and has now committed his long-term future to the Bees after impressing during his half-season stay.
Kayode made his Brentford debut as a substitute against Tottenham Hotspur and quickly established himself as a key figure in Thomas Frank’s squad.
He earned his first start in the thrilling 4-2 win over Brighton & Hove Albion and held down the right-back position for the final six games of the season.
Reacting to the announcement, Kayode said: "I am so excited to extend my stay at Brentford. I have felt so welcome from the first day I arrived at the club, thanks to my team-mates and the care the coaching staff have shown me.
"I’ve wanted to play in the Premier League since I was a child and it’s been so good to do that here. I can’t wait for more next season and beyond!"
The Italy U21 international played a crucial role in Yoane Wissa’s equaliser against Arsenal by floating a back-post ball to Nathan Collins, who headed down for the goal.
He also recorded his first direct assist in the 4-3 win over Manchester United, squaring the ball to Wissa for the team’s second goal.
His long throw-ins have added a new dimension to Brentford’s attacking threat.
Kayode’s arrival on a permanent basis reinforces Brentford’s commitment to developing young talent and strengthening the squad ahead of the 2025/26 season.
With his versatility, composure, and attacking instincts from full-back, Kayode is expected to play a key role in the club’s ambitions in the Premier League.
