Official: Bournemouth release Hamilton-Olise, retain former break dance champion
Published: June 09, 2025
Following the conclusion of the 2024-2025 season, Premier League side Bournemouth have confirmed their retained and released list, with decisions made on three young players of Nigerian descent.
Joshua Hamilton-Olise is among nine second year scholars not retained by the Cherries, meaning he is set to embark on a new chapter of his career next season.
Hamilton-Olise will depart Bournemouth upon the expiry of his contract on June 30, less than a year after he was added to the U18 group.
The teenager represented Bournemouth in the FA Youth Cup, U18 Professional Development League and U21 Professional Development League last term.
Hamilton-Olise was on the books of non-league club Harrow Borough before joining Bournemouth in the summer of 2024.
The central midfielder spent time at AFC Wimbledon before signing for Reading where he stayed for five years.
Meanwhile, Malachi Ogunleye is among the second year scholars retained for next season.
Born in Southampton to a Nigerian father Olamide and English mother Katie, he is eligible to represent the national teams of England and Nigeria, and is keeping an open mind on his international future.
Last season, he captained Bournemouth U18s in the Professional Development League and also featured in the Premier League Cup and FA Youth Cup.
Off the pitch, Ogunleye previously made a name for himself as a champion break dancer on the south coast.
At first team level, American-Nigerian defender Matai Akinmboni, who joined Bournemouth in the January transfer window, has been retained.
