Confirmed: Super Falcons-eligible forward departs Barcelona for NWSL club Bay FC
Published: July 16, 2025
Through a press release, National Women's Soccer League club Bay FC have announced the signing of Super Falcons-eligible forward Onyeka Gamero for an undisclosed transfer fee from Spanish club FC Barcelona, pending receipt of her international transfer certificate.
Born in Cerritos, California, United States, Onyeka is eligible to represent her country of birth as well as Nigeria and Spain through her mother and father respectively.
The young attacker has joined Bay FC on a contract through the 2028 NWSL season.
She arrived at La Masia in June 2023 and has departed Barcelona after two years at the club.
Onyeka arrived at Barcelona carrying the reputation of being one of the brightest talents in American football, but struggled to meet expectations at the Spanish giants due to fitness concerns.
Just months after her arrival, she suffered a major setback, sustaining a serious injury that saw her tear both her anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus.
The tri-national player is provisionally cap-tied her country of birth, having represented the United States at the 2022 U17 World Cup and 2023 Concacaf U20 Championship, helping her team qualify for the 2024 U20 World Cup.
Onyeka has been twice nominated for U.S. Soccer Young Player of the Year (2022 and 2023).
She links up with African stars Asisat Oshoala (Nigeria), Racheal Kundananji (Zambia) and Princess Marfo (Ghana) at Bay FC.
