What Chelsea striker on Nigeria's radar said after signing scholarship contract
Published: July 19, 2025
Chizaram Ezenwata has expressed his delight on social media after signing a new contract with Premier League giants Chelsea ahead of the 2025–2026 season.
The reigning FIFA Club World Cup champions confirmed their new intake of scholars on Friday, July 18, with the talented striker among the group set to begin the new campaign as first-year scholars.
Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that Ezenwata is expected to sign his first professional contract with the Blues upon turning 17 in September.
Two months ago, the prolific striker visited the Super Eagles camp in West London alongside his father, Ndubuisi Ezenwata, where he was warmly received by manager Eric Chelle and senior players amid talks over a potential international future with Nigeria at U20 or Olympic level.
Before joining Chelsea at U15 level, Ezenwata had agreed to a pre-scholarship deal, arriving from Charlton Athletic’s youth ranks after a remarkable 2022–2023 season in which he scored 62 goals.
Taking to Instagram to reflect on his journey so far, he wrote: "The chapter is over. The story? Still being written, grateful to all."
Ezenwata finished as Chelsea U18s' top scorer in his final season as a schoolboy, registering 11 goals in eighteen U18 Premier League appearances.
He will be targeting further milestones next season, with potential debuts in the Carabao Cup, UEFA Youth League and EFL Trophy on the horizon.
