Borussia Dortmund consider permanent signing of Chukwuemeka as Chelsea slash asking price

Borussia Dortmund’s pursuit of Carney Chukwuemeka has reportedly taken a fresh twist, with a permanent transfer now back on the table.

Initially exploring another loan deal with an option to buy, the Bundesliga giants could be set for a significant coup as Chelsea are reportedly willing to lower their valuation of the talented midfielder.

According to German outlet Bild via Ruhr24,  Chelsea have softened their stance and are now open to selling Chukwuemeka for around €25 million, down from the original €40 million price tag.

This development has prompted renewed interest from Dortmund, who are now seriously weighing up a permanent transfer for the 21-year-old.

Chukwuemeka, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Dortmund, made 17 appearances and played a total of 381 minutes.

Although his progress was hampered by recurring injuries and fitness issues, the England youth international of Nigerian descent offered glimpses of his potential that left a lasting impression on the club’s hierarchy.

Chukwuemeka is keen on a return to the Signal Iduna Park, a stance that is believed to be aiding Dortmund's negotiating position.

His desire to rejoin the Black and Yellows could help accelerate talks in what might become one of the more surprising deals of the summer.

If the reduced fee is agreed, the move could prove to be a shrewd piece of business for the eight-time Bundesliga champions.
