'Look at him' – Rangers coach urges his underperforming players to emulate Dessers' attitude

Rangers manager Russell Martin has praised Cyriel Dessers for his outstanding attitude and work rate, urging the underperforming players in the squad to follow the Nigerian striker's example.

Speaking after Rangers' Scottish Premiership opener at Motherwell, Martin revealed that Dessers remains the only player to have attracted concrete transfer interest this summer, yet continues to give his all on the pitch.

After conceding early to a James Tavernier goal, Motherwell dug deep and were rewarded late on as Emmanuel Longelo netted a long-awaited equaliser to salvage a point in a lively contest.

Dessers, who has been linked with a summer move to Greek giants AEK Athens and Dutch Eredivisie side Feyenoord, entered the game as a substitute with 27 minutes left on the clock

Despite speculation over his future at Rangers, his attitude has not gone unnoticed, with Martin using the striker's commitment as a benchmark for the rest of the squad.

Speaking to Sky Sports post-match, Martin said: "I said to some of the guys in there, Cyriel is the only one we have actually had a bid for and interest in.

"And he comes on and he runs so hard, on Wednesday night and today. Some of them need to have a look at him and set that example."

Dessers, Rangers' top scorer last season with 29 goals in 55 matches, has two years left on his contract.

Rangers return to action on Tuesday, August 5 when they host FC Viktoria Plzeň in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League.
