Done deal: Reading win race for exciting Nigerian forward ahead of Brighton
Published: August 06, 2025
Through a statement on the official website, EFL League One club Reading confirmed the signing of Basingstoke-born Nigerian forward Miles Obodo on Monday, August 4.
Described as an exciting young player, Obodo has put pen to paper on a one-year contract with the Royals, and will start his Reading career with Peter Scott's Under 21 team.
The 18-year-old was on a scholarship deal at his former club, Swindon Town, but has now signed his first professional contract with Reading.
Reading have pulled off a transfer coup by luring Obodo to the Select Car Leasing Stadium, beating Premier League club Brighton & Hove to his signature.
The attacker trained with the youth team of the Seagulls in May and featured as a trialist in an U18 Premier League clash against Crystal Palace, which ended in a 3–3 draw.
He made an impact off the bench, providing an assist during his 29-minute cameo.
Obodo made his Football League debut for Swindon Town at just 16 years old, and has left the club after eight appearances for the first team, including four in League Two during the 2023-24 campaign.
He spent the second half of last season at Southern League Division One Central team Marlow on a work experience loan.
Obodo was a member of the Swindon Town side that reached the quarterfinals of the FA Youth Cup in the 2023-2024 season.
