Update on Chelsea midfielder Ugochukwu's proposed move to PL newcomers Burnley
Published: August 06, 2025
France U23 international of Nigerian descent Lesley Ugochukwu is edging closer to sealing a move to Premier League newcomers Burnley, though the transfer is yet to be finalised.
According to The Athletic's David Ornstein, Burnley have reached an agreement with Chelsea for the promising midfielder, with a five-year deal already agreed.
Sky Sports added this evening that Ugochukwu is expected to undergo a medical within 24 hours before putting pen to paper.
The 21-year-old is among several players the Blues have decided to part ways with this summer as part of efforts to balance the books following a spending spree exceeding £200 million on new arrivals.
Nigerian youngsters Tyrique George and Carney Chukwuemeka are also on the chopping block, with Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund reportedly monitoring their situation.
Ugochukwu, who made 15 appearances for Chelsea in his debut campaign, spent last season on loan at Southampton, registering three goal involvements in 31 appearances across all competitions.
His profile has been removed from Chelsea's official website, an indication that his Stamford Bridge journey is nearing its end.
