'Tolu was top scorer' – Genk forward aims to match Arokodare's goal tally from last season
Published: August 10, 2025
Racing Genk believe they already have the ideal successor to last season's top scorer Tolu Arokodare in Hyeon-gyu Oh.
The South Korea international, who impressed as a super-sub in the previous campaign, is now tipped to become Thorsten Fink's main attacking threat.
Oh wasted no time making his mark this term, finding the net on the opening day against Club Brugge.
It was a statement of intent from the 24-year-old, who is determined to seize his long-awaited opportunity.
Last season, Oh was forced to play second fiddle to Arokodare, a role he admits was challenging.
Speaking to Het Laatste Nieuws, via voetbalnieuws, Oh said: "Ultimately, I accepted being the second man behind Tolu and waited for my chance.
"The coach assured me my moment would come this season and asked me to stay."
Now, with the starting berth his own, Oh has set his sights on equaling or even surpassing Arokodare's 21-goal haul.
"Tolu was top scorer with 21 goals, and I want to at least equal that. Although I think more is also possible.
"I usually get two or three big chances per match. If I can score once or twice in every match, I can make it happen."
While Arokodare was a near ever-present in Genk's attack last season, starting 37 Jupiler Pro League matches, Hyeon-gyu Oh was limited to just three starts.
This term, the Super Eagles striker is yet to feature from the outset amid mounting speculation about his future.
Reports have linked the 24-year-old with potential moves to clubs in Italy, Germany and England.
Arokodare, who arrived from French side Amiens SC in January 2023, remains under contract with Racing Genk for another two years.
