Transfer saga over: Ipswich confirm loan signing of Arsenal youth product Akpom from Ajax

With a statement on the official website, Championship outfit Ipswich Town have announced the loan signing of Arsenal's Hale End Academy graduate Chuba Akpom from Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam.

The Super Eagles hopeful will spend the entire 2025-2026 season on loan at Ipswich Town, with an obligation to buy included in the agreement.

This clause will be automatically triggered if the Tractor Boys secure promotion to the Premier League.

Akpom has finalized his transfer to Ipswich Town, bringing an end to a protracted transfer saga.

Birmingham City had shown interest in signing the Nigerian striker on a permanent deal, but the move collapsed after the 29-year-old made it clear he preferred to join Ipswich.

Middlesbrough, Lens and Olympiakos were also among the clubs that had expressed interest in securing Akpom’s services this summer.

Winner of the Golden Boot in the Championship for the 2022-2023 season, Akpom has Football League experience, with 139 appearances under his belt for six different clubs.

During his time with Arsenal, he gained valuable experience on loan at Brentford, Coventry City, Brighton, Hull City, and Nottingham Forest, before moving permanently to PAOK in Greece.

Akpom is in contention to make his competitive debut for Ipswich Town on Tuesday evening when they take on Bromley in the Carabao Cup.

The forward, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Lillle, has featured in 68 official games for Ajax first team, scoring 23 goals to date.
