Brentford's record signings: Onyeka drops to 8th as Bournemouth winger nears historic move
Published: August 15, 2025
Brentford are on the brink of breaking their transfer record with the imminent signing of Bournemouth winger Dango Ouattara for a fee of £42.5m, including add-ons, according to The BBC.
If completed, the move will catapult Ouattara to the top of the club's all-time transfer list, overtaking Igor Thiago, who cost £30m.
Seventeen days before the transfer window closes, Brentford still have funds available for new signings after offloading Bryan Mbeumo, Christian Nørgaard and Mark Flekken to Manchester United, Arsenal and Bayer Leverkusen respectively in deals worth a combined €97.6 million.
A decade ago, the club's record signing was Andreas Bjelland at £2.1m, a figure that now seems modest compared to today's market.
Brentford's record-breaking fee pushes the club's previous marquee signings down the hierarchy, with Nathan Collins at £23m, Kevin Schade £22m, Keane Lewis-Potter £20m, Aaron Hickey £17m, Kristoffer Ajer £13.5m and Frank Onyeka £8.5m now sitting eighth on the list.
On July 20 2021, Onyeka became Brentford's most expensive acquisition in history following his permanent move from Danish outfit Midtjylland.
His record stood for only a day, eclipsed by the arrival of Norway international Kristoffer Ajer from Celtic in a deal worth £13.5 million plus add-ons.
Onyeka has appeared in 78 matches for Brentford, scoring once while producing four assists.
In search of regular game time, the FC Ebedei product spent the 2024–25 season on loan at Bundesliga club FC Augsburg.
