After failing to land Boniface, AC Milan set to announce signing of German-based Nigerian player

Italian giants AC Milan are set to announce the signing of German-based Nigerian defender David Odogu after their move for Victor Boniface to the San Siro fell through.

The Rossoneri had reached an agreement with all parties for Boniface but pulled out of the deal due to fitness concerns.

Instead, AC Milan struck a deal with Wolfsburg for 19-year-old defender David Odogu to make the switch to Italy.

According to Sky Sport Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, the young defender arrived in Italy today to finalise the transfer before the window closes.

His signing is seen as a move to strengthen Milan's defence and provide squad depth, as Massimiliano Allegri continues his project to restore the Rossoneri into a side capable of challenging for trophies both domestically and in Europe.

Born in Germany, Odogu featured for the nation at U17 level and impressed with Wolfsburg's youth team, which earned him a promotion to the senior squad before sealing his move to AC Milan.

Known for his composure and defensive intelligence, Odogu remains eligible to represent Nigeria at senior level, as he is yet to receive a call-up to Germany's national team.

Odogu will be eager to seal the transfer and continue his development at the San Siro.
