Done Deal: Super Eagles forward with PL and Ligue 1 experience joins Botev Plovdiv

With a statement on the official website, Bulgarian First League club Botev Plovdiv have announced the signing of Nigeria international Samuel Kalu.

Kalu has finally found a new team after thirteen months without a club, following his release by Watford in August 2024.

Botev Plovdiv have informed that the Golden Boot Soccer Academy graduate has signed a long-term deal.

The 28-year-old has been hailed as a marquee signing, boasting an impressive resume that includes four Premier League outings with Watford and 72 Ligue 1 appearances for Bordeaux.

Kalu has scored and assisted in the Champions League qualifiers and the group stage of the Europa League.

Botev Plovdiv have embarked on an extensive recruitment drive in recent months, adding 17 new players to their ranks, among them Nigerian forwards Armstrong Oko-Flex and Kalu.

Daniel Naumov, Simeon Petrov, Tailson, Dimitar Mitkov, Steven Petkov, Hristiyan Slavkov, Emil Martinov,  Mascote, Tales, Nikolay Prandzhev, Gabriel Noga, Henrique Jocu, Todor Nedelev, Nikola Soldo and Enock Kwateng have also joined the Canaries.  

Apart from Watford and Bordeaux, Kalu lists Lausanne-Sport, AS Trencin and KAA Gent as his former clubs. 

On the international stage, Kalu was a member of the Super Eagles squad to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, where he featured in three games.

He has recorded sixteen appearances for the national team, registering two goals and three assists.
