Deadline day signing Chukwueze makes debut for Fulham in Carabao Cup win over Cambridge

Samuel Chukwueze made his Fulham debut as the Cottagers sealed a 1-0 victory over Cambridge United in the Carabao Cup at Craven Cottage.

The 26-year-old Nigerian winger, who joined on a season-long loan from AC Milan on deadline day, came on in the 60th minute to replace Adama Traoré.

It was his first appearance for Marco Silva’s side, having been an unused substitute in the 3-1 Premier League win over Brentford last weekend.

Chukwueze’s move to Fulham is seen as a fresh opportunity to revive his career.

Once a highly rated prospect at Villarreal, he struggled to replicate that form after joining AC Milan in the summer of 2023.

Limited playing time and injuries affected his progress in Italy, but the Super Eagles international now hopes a switch to England can help him rediscover his best form.

Fulham secured their place in the next round thanks to a 66th-minute strike from Emile Smith Rowe, who finished smartly from close range after Timothy Castagne’s cross.

Cambridge battled bravely but were unable to find a way back into the contest.

For Chukwueze, the evening marked an important step as he begins his journey in English football.
