After leaving Charlton, former Flying Eagles invitee's younger brother joins Brighton

Promising Nigerian centre-back Chetam Ezenwata has joined Brighton & Hove Albion, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.

Earlier this week, the 16-year-old confirmed that his time at Charlton Athletic had come to an end, signalling that a move was imminent.

His switch to the Seagulls has now been completed, and it is understood that he has signed scholarship terms with the Premier League club as he was born in March 2010.

Ezenwata's family was in attendance as he put pen to paper on his contract with Brighton.

Although he is eligible to be registered on Brighton's Premier League squad as an U21 player, he is expected to feature for the club's U18 side in the new season.

Chetam is the younger brother of prolific Chelsea youth-team striker Chizzy Ezenwata, who was invited to a Flying Eagles training camp in 2025.

Their father, Ndubuisi Ezenwata, is a former Gombe United star who wants his children to represent Nigeria even though they have featured for England at youth level.

Last season, Chetam played a key role in Charlton Athletic's U18 Professional Development League South title success, and started their 3-0 victory over Wigan Athletic in the U18 PDL playoff final.

His impressive performances earned him the club's 2025-26 Academy Player of the Season award.
