'He's a good player' - Hamburg boss rates Super Eagles striker Moffi ahead of imminent transfer

Hamburg coach Merlin Polzin has praised Super Eagles forward Terem Moffi ahead of his imminent move to the Bundesliga club, describing the Nigerian striker as a player who possesses qualities that could strengthen his squad.

Polzin admitted that he had yet to meet the Nigeria international personally, but he already has a positive assessment of the forward's qualities.

“I haven't seen or met him myself yet. He's a good player who certainly has numerous skills that would help us," he said, as quoted by Hamburger Morgenpost.

Moffi spent the second half of the 2025/26 season on loan at FC Porto after joining the Portuguese club from Nice in January.

Porto had an option to make the move permanent for €8 million but did not take it up, resulting in the striker returning to Nice before his expected transfer to Hamburg.

During his time with Porto, Moffi was part of the squad that won the Portuguese league title, although the club ultimately decided against activating the option to sign him permanently.

Hamburg's move for the Nigerian forward would provide Polzin with another attacking option as the  Bundesliga side prepare for the new campaign.

The transfer is expected to be completed once Moffi undergoes his medical and the remaining formalities are concluded.
