Lorient agree deal to sign Napoli defender Nosa on loan with N5.5b buy option

Ligue 1 club Lorient are on the verge of announcing the signing of Nigerian-eligible defender Nosa Obaretin on loan, with an option to make the deal permanent at the end of the 2026/2027 campaign, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The young defender, who can operate as both a centre-back and left-back, enjoyed an impressive campaign on loan with Empoli in the second division of Italian football.

The 23-year-old impressed with his strong defensive performances and versatility, making 30 appearances across all competitions and providing one assist for the Italian club.

Obaretin, who is eligible to represent both Nigeria and Italy, attracted interest from several European clubs following his solid performances in Serie B, with Lorient and Austrian side Sturm Graz reportedly among the clubs monitoring his situation.

Lorient have agreed to sign the young defender on a loan deal with an option to buy worth around €3.5m (approximately N5.5 billion) at the end of the campaign.

Meanwhile, Napoli have reportedly agreed to the deal and will also retain a sell-on clause should Lorient decide to make the move permanent at the end of the season.

Born in Forlì, Italy, Nosa will be keen to impress in Ligue 1 and secure a permanent move as he looks to end a series of loan spells since joining Napoli in 2022.

Before moving to Empoli, he had also featured on loan at Trento and Bari since moving to the Diego Maradona stadium.
