Super Eagles forward Terem Moffi is facing a fresh fitness concern at Hamburger SV after his knee problem disrupted his preparations for the club’s Bundesliga return against TSG Hoffenheim.
Moffi has been forced to suspend normal training because of the injury, putting his availability for the October 10 meeting under serious doubt.
The Nigerian striker had been expected to use the international break to work on his fitness after missing part of Hamburger SV’s preseason preparations.
However, Moffi’s recovery remains limited. The 27-year-old returned to the training pitch on Tuesday but could only complete some light running, as he was not yet ready to resume full training with his teammates.
Hamburger SV head coach Merlin Polzin is therefore taking a cautious approach while the club continues to monitor the striker’s condition.
“We need to get to know his knee a little better through our work together. The knee reacted a bit more than I initially thought. Now we have to wait and see what happens this week,” Polzin told Kicker.
A final decision on Moffi’s involvement against Hoffenheim has yet to be made, but the Bundesliga fixture could arrive too soon for the forward if his recovery does not accelerate.
Hamburger SV will continue to assess his response to training before determining whether he can return to the squad for the Hoffenheim encounter.
