Official: Crystal Palace defender Jemide joins FC Alverca on permanent deal

Tottenham-born Nigerian defender Mofe Jemide has ended his six-year association with Premier League club Crystal Palace, with his departure now official.

In a statement on their official website, Liga Portugal side FC Alverca announced the signing of the England U20 international.

Predominantly a central defender, Jemide joined Palace at the age of 13 and helped the U21s win the Premier League International Cup during the 2023-2024 season, starting in their 1-0 victory over PSV Eindhoven in the final.

The 19-year-old stands out for his ability to handle attackers in one-on-one situations, as well as his composure and quality when carrying the ball and building play from the back.

Although FC Alverca highlighted that Jemide holds dual Nigerian and English nationality, they also noted that he is the first Englishman to represent the club.

The defender was a member of England's squad for the 2023 European U17 Championship.

In his final season at Crystal Palace, Jemide made 20 appearances for the U21 squad, helping the Young Eagles reach the quarterfinals of both the Premier League 2 playoffs and the International Cup.

In his first words as an FC Alverca player, Jemide stated: "I am here to help FC Alverca soar higher and leave its mark in the Primeira Liga."

Jemide links up with Nigerian left-back Isaac James at FC Alverca.
