'Opportunities like this are rare' - Abdulmalik pushes to leave Boreham Wood after three Djurgardens bids

Nigeria-eligible winger Abdul Abdulmalik has expressed his desire to leave English club Boreham Wood before the close of the current summer transfer window.

The young forward made his feelings known after Boreham Wood rejected a third bid from Swedish club Djurgårdens for his services.

Djurgårdens have reportedly made three bids for Abdulmalik, with their latest proposal worth £1.5 million upfront.

The Swedish club’s previous offers are believed to have included bids of £750,000 and £1 million, before they returned with an improved £1.5m proposal.

Abdulmalik enjoyed a breakthrough 2025/2026 campaign, scoring 17 goals and providing 10 assists as Boreham Wood reached the National League play-off final, where he also found the back of the net and registered an assist at Wembley.

His impressive performances attracted interest from several clubs across Europe, with Djurgårdens showing the strongest desire to secure his signature and submitting three offers in an attempt to lure him away from Meadow Park.

Boreham Wood have rejected all three bids, with the latest £1.5m proposal failing to convince the English club to part ways with their highly rated winger.

Djurgårdens are now reportedly undecided over whether to return with another offer, while Abdulmalik is believed to be frustrated by Boreham Wood’s decision to reject multiple bids for his services.

Taking to Instagram, the winger expressed his desire to take the next step in his career and revealed that opportunities to progress from the National League are rare.

“Through sheer hard work and perseverance, the opportunity to progress has come around. This is my chance to push myself as a footballer, elevate my game and most importantly fulfil my promise to the ones around me,” Abdulmalik wrote on social media.

“Opportunities like this are rare, especially within the national league where some of the hardest-working talent is overlooked.

“The game of football is forever changing and decisions are fast-paced. There's no guarantee that the same chances come knocking twice.

“I owe it to myself and the kids growing up just like me to fight for this one I've been offered."

The youngster also thanked Boreham Wood and the club’s supporters for their role in his development, while making it clear that he is ready for a new challenge.

“Moving on from a club is one of the toughest decisions in a footballer's career. I'm more than grateful for everyone that has been a part of my journey so far.

“Everyone at Borehamwood FC and the incredible fans have played a massive part. You will always have my respect. With this said, I'm ready for the next challenge. I'm ready to prove to myself and those around me that I'm capable of reaching the top,” he concluded.

With only a few days remaining before the close of the summer window, Abdulmalik will be keen to resolve his future and secure a move that will allow him to continue his development and take the next step in his career away from England.
