Published: July 14, 2013
23 - year - old Derick Ogbu is on the brink of signing a contract with 2012 Romania champions CFR Cluj.
There is no point of conflict between both clubs and the Nigerian is expected to travel to the Eastern European country in the coming days to discuss personal terms.
With Ogbu's contract set to expire at the end of next season, OHL wanted to recoup some of their previous investment on the striker and had reduced his asking price from 1 million euros to 500,000 euros to attract suitors.
The ex Enugu Rangers youth - teamer was not considered for selection by manager Ronny Van Geneugden in OHL's last two exhibition games against Antwerp and Lierse, fueling speculation that he is on the way out of Stadion Den Dreef .
CFR Cluj, led by Mircea Rednic, have pulled a major transfer coup in convincing Ogbu to sign for The Railwaymen.
The ex Standard Liege coach told the club's leadership that Ogbu is his number one transfer priority in the summer transfer window.
Indeed, there was domestic competition as well as from clubs overseas for the player's signature.
Dutch club Heracles Almelo had explored the possibility of signing Derick Ogbu but OHL rejected the advances of manager Jan de Jonge.
In addition, OHL did not want to do business with other teams in the Belgium Pro League.
Derick Ogbu netted 18 goals in 60 appearances for OH Leuven in the Belgian top division.
