Ahead of the Super Eagles friendly against South Africa in Durban, Nigeria international Kenneth Omeruo has suffered a relapse on his shoulder injury which he picked up at the Fifa Confederations Cup in June.
Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that he 19 - year - old central defender will undergo surgery in the coming days.
If Kenneth Omeruo's rehabilitation goes according to plan, he is expected to be out of action for at least three months.
And this means the youngster will not be considered for selection when manager Stephen Keshi names his roster for next month's crucial World Cup qualifying fixture against Malawi in Calabar.
Kenneth Omeruo started training with the Chelsea Under 21 squad on Saturday, August 3.
Speculation linking him with a loan switch away from Stamford Bridge may not materialize until the winter transfer market as a result of the injury setback.
