CFR Cluj Midfielder Obiora Nwankwo Backs Nigeria To Beat Argentina
Published: January 06, 2014
The South Americans are not unfamiliar opposition to the Super Eagles having met them three times in previous tournaments but the African champions lost by the odd goal in 1994, 1998 and 2010.
Now Obiora Nwankwo believes a revitalized Nigeria will take all three points in Porto Alegre, stating that the previous encounters should not be an indication of the outcome of the meeting.
“On paper, it seems like Argentina should be the toughest team in the group.
“I also think, right now, we have what it takes to do well against Argentina and match them with equal chances.
“The last time we met was close and they did not outplay us, but they got a narrow win.
“It can be different this time, because we now have the spirit of winning the Nations Cup with us.
“We also have more experience from playing many top matches with players doing well with their different clubs in the major leagues of Europe.
“Yes, I believe we have what it takes to beat Argentina this time.
“With the level of progress we have made and winning the Nations Cup has boosted our morale,”Obiora Nwankwo told the electronic edition of Sports Day.
Obiora Nwankwo has represented CFR Cluj in the Liga 1 eleven times in the 2013 - 2014 campaign.
