Chinedu Obasi Ends Two - Year Goal Drought Against Former Team
Published: March 09, 2014
In the 24th round of matches in the German Bundesliga, Nigeria international Chinedu Obasi got off the mark for Schalke 04 in their 4 - 0 hammering of Hoffenheim.
What a perfect timing for the 27 - year - old forward to end his goal drought for the Royal Blues, dating back to February 4, 2012 when he was on target after 59 minutes in the 1 - 1 draw with Mainz.
Incidentally, Chinedu Obasi arrived the Veltins-Arena, Gelsenkirchen from Hoffenheim in the 2012 winter transfer market from Hoffenheim, where he had spent approximately half a decade.
Schalke 04 had suffered two defeats on the bounce, first in the Champions League to Real Madrid then another in the Bundesliga clash away to Bayern Munich last weekend.
But they got their season back on track by scoring four unreplied goals on Saturday to move fourth on the table.
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Schalke 04 talisman in attack, bagged a hat-trick for the home team.
And the Dutchman could have even added more gloss to the scoreline if he had converted his spot-kick just after the half hour mark.
Chinedu Obasi struck 11 minutes into the second half to erase any hope of a comeback by Hoffenheim.
In the next round of fixtures, Schalke 04 are guests to Augsburg , who beat Borussia Mönchengladbach 2 - 1 this weekend.
