Exclusive : Golden Eaglets Trio Reject Djurgardens IF Peanuts
Published: March 21, 2014
Golden Eaglets duo Idowu Akinjide and Aliyu Abubakar have returned the country empty handed without signing contracts after two weeks spent in Scandinavia testing with an Allsvenskan club.
Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that representatives of both players rejected the peanuts offered by Djurgårdens IF , the same club which once paid the wages of retired Nigeria National Teamer Prince Ikpe Ekong and striker Kennedy Igboananike.
Had they accepted the offer from the Blue Stripes, they would have been earning stipends until they clock 18 later this year.
Umar Ahmed, 17, of GEELEC Soccer Academy also turned down the preliminary contract proposed by DIF.
Bayer Leverkusen have invited Aliyu Abubakar for trials this summer while the two midfielders are weighing other offers from Europe.
