Published: March 28, 2014
The Flamingoes, Nigeria’s Under 17 Women’s Team, have crashed out of the ongoing Fifa World Cup after losing to Spain 3 - 0 on Thursday.
A brace from 15 - year - old Patri Guijarro either side of the half and Nahikari Garcia’s goal just before the hour mark condemned Nigeria to their first defeat in the competition.
Disappointed with the exit of his charges, coach Nikyu Bala has praised the Costa Rica Federation and Fifa for organizing a flawless tournament.
In his post match comments, Bala stated : “Although we’re disappointed that our adventure has ended too early, we’ve really enjoyed taking part in this marvellous FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, which has been fantastically well organised.
“It goes without saying that I’m not happy with the way the match panned out or our performance, but there’s nothing we can do about it now except try to put it behind us.”
Spain will now meet European rivals Italy on Monday, March 31 for a spot in the final.
