Exclusive: Mallorca President Blocks Marvin Ogunjimi Transfer To Stromsgodset
Published: April 04, 2014
Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that Belgium National Teamer Marvin Ogunjimi missed out on a move to Tippeligaen champions Strømsgodset before teams were allowed to conclude their transfer market business in Norway on March 31.
The 26 - year - old forward had impressed manager Ronny Deila during trials and was set to be offered an initial one - year contract by Strømsgodset only for Real Mallorca to block the move at the last minute.
Undoubtedly, the highlight of his performance in the test games was his brace in the 5 - 3 win over Mjøndalen, Strømsgodset’s last exhibition match before the start of the Premier League.
Aware of the fact that Ogunjimi was not guaranteed game time, the leadership of Mallorca farmed him out on loan to OH Leuven for the remainder of the 2013 - 2014 season.
There was an agreement between Mallorca and OH Leuven which stipulated that the Belgian club will be saddled with the responsibility of paying his wages.
The current Chairman of Mallorca wanted to rubbish the achievements of the former Board , who rubber-stamped the club’s decision to purchase the Belgian - Nigerian from Racing Genk in the summer of 2011.
With hours remaining before the close of the market, Strømsgodset did all they can to force the transfer to go through and even offered an undisclosed sum to the Spanish team but their bid was turned down.
It should be noted that Mallorca had promised Marvin Ogunjimi that he had the freedom to terminate his contract if he finds a new club but they reneged on the agreement.
In the last few months, the ex Racing Genk hero had been linked with New England Revolution (USA), Veria (Greece) and Beitar Jerusalem but nothing came out of it.
