Anthony Ujah Says Goal Will Improve His Confidence
Published: April 05, 2014
Nigeria international Anthony Ujah has explained the rationale behind his bit part role in the last three games played by Cologne in the 2 Bundesliga.
The 23 - year - old came off the bench on Saturday as the Billy Goats cemented their lead in the second - tier thanks to the 2 - 0 win over Arminia Bielefeld in the 29th round of matches.
Introduced in the 67th minute by manager Peter Stoger, Anthony Ujah took less than 8 minutes to net his 8th goal of the season.
“First I’ll like to thank God for the goal. The coach switched to a one striker system in the last 3 games which has been good for us and as a team player I kept giving everything and today I was rewarded with a goal.
“The goal will surely help my confidence and hopefully I’ll have more to give my team,” Ujah said to allnigeriasoccer.com.
The former Lillestrom golden boy quickly dismissed suggestions that he has set his sight on breaking his record number of goals in a single season (14 goals) which he set while defending the colors of the Canaries back in the 2010 season.
“I’ll keep doing my best but the teams achievement is more important than a personal goal. We are almost clinching promotion which is my focus for now if I keep scoring then fine but I’ll keep fighting.”
Overall, Anthony Ujah has notched up 21 goals in 57 2 Bundesliga appearances for Cologne.
