Sunshine Stars, Warri Wolves, Gombe To Receive 12.5 Million Naira Each From Fifa
Published: June 03, 2014
The bank accounts of Sunshine Stars of Akure, Gombe United and Warri Wolves will be credited with the sum of 50,000 pounds each ( equivalent of =N=12.5 million each) on or before the next two weeks after their players made the World Cup roster.
Since 2010., Fifa has introduced the payment of compensation to teams that their players are selected for the mundial.
And this year clubs will share a total of 70 million dollars compared to 40 million dollars four years ago when the tournament was hosted by South Africa.
Per circular number 1381 sent to all member associations on September 6, 2013, Fifa will credit the bank account of the Nigeria Football Federation for the sums to be passed on to Glo Premier League clubs.
It should be noted that it is irrelevant whether or not the three selected players - Azubuike Egwuekwe, Chigozie Agbim and Kunle Odulami - are fielded by Stephen Keshi at the World Cup.
This is the first time Nigerian clubs will benefit from this windfall, as no local player was selected by Lars Lagerback for 2010.
