EXCLUSIVE - Kehinde Fatai : Yes, I Want To Play For Romania
Published: August 01, 2014
Astra Giurgiu forward Kehinde Fatai has opened the door to representing the Romanian National Team, and that dream could materialize as early as next month when the Eastern Europeans clash with Greece in a European championship qualification fixture.
Coach of Romania, Victor Piţurc watched from the podium on Thursday night as the former Flying Eagles striker bagged his first - ever hat - trick in a European competition as Astra thrashed Slovan Liberec 3 - 0 in the Europa League.
“Yes I want to play for Romania. Since last year, the Romanian Federation wants me to naturalize and play for the national team. They are still after me.
“I just have to get an invitation to play for them and I will get the Romanian passport. I have all the documents that will enable me to be issued with their passport.
“I have a meeting with the Romanian Federation tomorrow to continue discussions on playing for the national team,”Kehinde Fatai told allnigeriasoccer.com in a telephone conversation on Friday afternoon.
Per Article 7 of Fifa rules, Kehinde Fatai is already eligible to represent Romania, having spent more than five years in the country.
In addition, he has never sported the jersey of the Nigeria National Team at senior level.
