Chinedu Obasi Gets Call Up After Three Years In The International Wilderness
Published: August 19, 2014
Local Football regulator, Nigeria Football Federation, in the absence of a substantive coach, on Tuesday announced a list of 23 players invited to prosecute the Afcon qualifiers against Congo and South Africa.
Hull City offensive player Sone Aluko, Elderson Echiejile, Nnamdi Oduamadi, Nosa Igiebor and Chinedu Obasi have all been recalled to the national team after failing to make the World Cup roster.
An analysis of the squad list revealed that 3 goalkeepers, 7 defenders, 6 midfielders and 7 attackers are expected to train with the squad in Calabar at the start of September.
Also, five home based players - Agbim, Egwuekwe, Odunlami, Salami and Ighodaro - have been summoned for the games.
Fenerbahce defender Joseph Yobo and Peter Odemwingie of Stoke City were not invited after both dropped hints that they would love to retire from the national team post World Cup.
