Efe Ambrose Off To Slovenia After Administrative Goof
Published: August 20, 2014
Nigeria international Efe Ambrose is in a race against time to join the Glasgow Celtic squad that will tackle Slovenian side, Maribor, in the first leg, play - off round of the Champions League on Wednesday night.
The stopper is eligible for the match at Ljudski vrt, but an administrative goof prevented him from traveling with the rest of the squad to Slovenia.
Efe Ambrose picked up a red card in the away leg of the third qualifying fixture against Legia Warsaw, and served his one - match ban in the return leg.
However, UEFA cancelled the fixture, awarding a 3 - 0 victory to the Scottish champions, after their opponents fielded an ineligible player.
There had been doubts that the central defender did not sit out that game since it was cancelled, but UEFA has confirmed otherwise.
The Beijing Olympic silver medalist will join his teammates in Slovenia this morning.
