Falconets Coach, Peter Dedevbo Hails Four - Goal Heroine Asisat Oshoala
Published: August 21, 2014
For the second time in three tournaments, Nigeria’s Women’s Under 20 Team, the Falconets have qualified for the final of the Fifa Under 20 World Cup currently taking place in Canada, after defeating North Korea 6 - 2 in the semis.
A double brace by Asisat Oshoala, a quick goal from Courtney Dike and Uchechi Sunday’s 55th minute strike took the Falconets to Sunday’s final, where they will face Germany at Montreal’s Olympic Stadium.
Ri Un-Sim and Jon So-Yon registered their names on the score-sheet for the North Koreans, who will now contest the third place game against France on Sunday, three hours before the Africans face Germany in the last game of the tournament.
“A goal scored early against any team gives our team confidence and it breaks that of our opponents.
“We had already played against Korea Republic and I was sure that Korea DPR were not better than them, so I was confident we would win,” coach Peter Dedevbo said in his post match comments.
He added : “Now we are in the final and, whoever our opponents will be, we are not afraid of them. I had said to my girls before the tournament that the World Cup really starts at the quarter-finals.
“Since that stage, my team have improved. And if you want to accomplish great things, it is important to have intelligence in your team and a player who can make the difference like Asisat (Oshoala) did today. ”
Four - goal heroine Asisat Oshoala was named Player of the Match. She has now netted 7 goals in 10 games in two editions of the Fifa Under 20s.
