Nigeria Hero Maureen Mmadu Does Not Want History To Repeat Itself; Falconets Advised Not To Lose Concentration
Published: August 23, 2014
Falcons legend Maureen Mmadu has advised Nigeria’s Under 20 Women’s National Team not to take their foot off the pedal against Germany tomorrow when both countries face off in the final of the Fifa Under 20s.
Apart from being a successful coach with Norwegian club Avaldsnes Idrettsla, Mmadu’s pronouncements must be taken seriously as she took to the pitch 10 years ago when the Olympic Team threw away a one - goal lead, losing 2 - 1 to Germany in the quarterfinals.
“In 2004, we played well but lost concentration. The Germans are strong, they run a lot and they never give up but our girls can use their physique and tactics to outwit them.
“I’ll advice the Falconets not to lose concentration. They have to fight till the final whistle and play the game Nigeria is known for.
“They should approach the game and forget about the history of Germany in Women’s Football, ” says Maureen Mmadu to allnigeriasoccer.com.
In 2004, the European powerhouse scored two late goals, with the first coming in the 76th minute before Conny Pohlers netted the match winner five minutes later.
Calling a spade a spade, Nigeria lost concentration and Mmadu does not want a repeat of that incident.
