Vincent Enyeama Pulls Out Of AFCON Qualifiers
Published: September 02, 2014
Lille numero uno Vincent Enyeama has pulled out of the Super Eagles African Cup of Nations qualifying fixtures against Congo and South Africa, citing family issues that needed to be sorted out during the period the games are scheduled to take place.
The World Cup veteran was one of the three goalkeepers nominated to prosecute both matches, alongside Austin Ejide (Hapoel Beer Sheva) and Chigozie Agbim (Gombe United).
“I spoke to the coach and explained to him why I couldn’t make it. I have some very pressing family issues to attend to at this time and it’s important for me to be there with my family at this time.
“I’ve told the coach that I will be available in future. But this time, I need to be there for my family,” Enyeama told colinudoh.com.
In the absence of Vincent Enyeama, Hapoel Beer Sheva goalkeeper Austin Ejike is most likely to get Stephen Keshi’s nod to be in between the pipes in both games.
Nigeria will tackle Congo this weekend in Calabar before traveling to Cape Town for an intriguing clash with South Africa.
