Zlatan Ibrahimovic Escapes Red Card After Elbowing Bayern Munich Defender David Alaba
Published: September 09, 2014
The highlight of Sweden’s Euro 2016 qualifying fixture against Austria (1 - 1) on Tuesday night was PSG superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic turning out for the Scandinavian country for the 100th time in his career.
On the flip side, Zlatan Ibrahimovic was fortunate to escape being red carded after he elbowed Austrian - Nigerian wing - back David Alaba on the face in the first half of the tie in Vienna.
Whether that act was done voluntarily or was not planned is left for Europe’s governing body to decide when the incident is reviewed.
The brave Bayern Munich defender, who was on target in the 7th minute, soldiered on until the end of the game staged at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion (Wien).
Another player with Nigerian blood, Rubin Okotie, was a second half substitute, joining the fray as a 69th minute substitute.
