Flying Eagles Defender Samuel Okon Dedicates MON Award To Governor Godswill Akpabio, Manu Garba

Nigeria youth international Samuel Okon, who is reportedly testing with Spanish side Sporting Gijon, was delighted with the country’s number one citizen, President Goodluck Jonathan, for honoring him with the Member of the Order of Niger (MON) award on Monday.
The left fullback, who featured in every single game contested by the Golden Eaglets at the 2013 Fifa Under 17s, has dedicated the award to his state governor, Godswill Akpabio and the coaches in the junior national team.
“I want to first thank God for the award, and I am dedicating it to my family, manager, Mr Fred, the people of Akwa Ibom State and the Governor, Godswill Akpabio.
“Finally, I would love to thank my coaches when I was with the Under 17 team, Manu Garba and his assistance, Nduka Ugbade, who both gave me the chance to play for my country and make them proud,” Samuel Okon told allnigeriasoccer.com.
The 17 - year - old will spend some time in Uyo before returning to Spain in October to continue his trials with Sporting Gijon, subject to him receiving positive green - light from the Spanish embassy in Lagos.
Atlético Madrid plus Real Oviedo are also keeping tabs on Samuel Okon, according to reports.
