Exclusive : Boavista Set To Replace Summer Target Shola Shodiya With Michael Uchebo
Published: October 04, 2014
Allnigeriasoccer.com can confirm reports in the Portuguese press led by A Bola that Boavista are in advanced talks with Nigeria international Michael Uchebo regarding a contract.
And if all goes well, the former VVV Venlo and Cercle Brugge striker will be unveiled as a player of Boavista on Monday.
Boavista chiefs have scheduled a meeting with the Portuguese agent that brokered the deal and the player tomorrow, Sunday, and it is expected that both parties will reach an agreement.
It is noteworthy that Michael Uchebo, one of the surprise inclusions in Stephen Keshi’s World Cup roster, was not the first choice of the Primeira Liga outfit.
Indeed, the club had held high level talks with another Nigerian forward, Shola Shodiya, who last played for Birkirkara FC, over the summer, but a deal failed to materialize after his agent refused to accept the financial terms being offered.
After the deal fell through, Michael Uchebo’s manager, Tony Harris, was contacted by intermediaries representing Boavista, and he gave them green - light to pursue the transfer.
An unnamed club in the Ukrainian Premier League had been exploring ways to sign the 24 - year - old this summer, but they were unsuccessful after Tony Harris failed to sanction the move.
