But the rave of the moment has insisted that the ailment will not prevent him from turning out for his Chinese club this weekend when they tackle Shandong Luneng.
The 20 - year - old has received rave reviews from the critical Nigerian fans following his display against Sudan, and all the doubting Thomases are now singing a different tune.
In his second appearance for the national team, and in front of the home fans, Samuel capped off an imperious performance by scoring his first ever international goal after 66 minutes.
“I felt a little bit of pain and that is the reason I could not complete the match. I was kicked in the ankle by a Sudanese player. It is nothing serious, in the next two days I will be match fit.
“I should be able to play our next game in the League this weekend, ” the Nigeria number 5 told allnigeriasoccer.com.
Aaron Samuel was snapped up by Norwegian Premier League club Vålerenga in 2012 after he was recommended by Norwegian - Nigerian agent Atta Aneke.
The former Dolphins and Shooting Stars forward has scored 16 goals in 54 topflight games for Vålerenga, Sarpsborg 08 and Guangzhou R&F.
