New Football Heroine Asisat Oshoala Nets Brace, As Nigeria Qualify For World Cup
Published: October 22, 2014
Nigeria’s new football heroine Asisat Oshoala scored two goals as the Falcons defeated South Africa 2 - 1 to advance to next year’s Fifa Women’s World Cup to be staged in Canada.
The Rivers Angels star opened scoring in the 38th minute through a deflected shot before she added a second just before the end of the first half.
It would appear that the Golden Ball winner at the 2014 Fifa Under 20s attempted a cross, but the Bayana Bayana goalkeeper Mndaweni was caught off her line after she misjudged the flight of the ball.
South Africa pulled a goal back in the 68th minute through Refiloe Jane to set up a nervy finish, but Nigeria soldiered on to ensure they will be playing in the final.
Nigeria, who have a 100 percent record at the ongoing tourney, will face the winner of the other semi - final between Ivory Coast and Cameroon in the showpiece final.
