Reason Behind Watford Offering Odion Ighalo Permanent Deal Explained
Published: October 26, 2014
English Championship side Watford have converted Odion Ighalo’s loan move into a permanent transfer.
Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that the leadership of Watford extended the contract of the former Flying Eagles skipper in order to clean up their books, and also reward the striker for his outstanding start to his career at Vicarage Road.
It is understood that the authorities in England recently changed the rules that will prevent Watford from signing an unlimited number of international players on loan especially from partnership clubs Udinese and Granada, who are both owned by the Pozzo family.
“The issue is that Watford have too many players on loan. What they actually did was that the same length of contract Odion Ighalo had with Udinese was transferred to Watford,” a source told allnigeriasoccer.com.
“It’s just a formality, and nothing special was done. There’s now a limit to the number of players a club can sign from overseas on loan.
“And it’s because of Watford they changed the rules.”
The new two - and - a - half year deal that Odion Ighalo signed with Watford will keep him tied down to the club until 2017.
The former Lyn Oslo, Udinese and Granada man has scored three times in his last four appearances for Watford in the second - tier.
