Kelechi Nwakali Rescues Golden Eaglets From Defeat
Published: February 18, 2015
Skipper Kelechi Nwakali rescued world champions Nigeria from defeat in their second group game at the ongoing CAF Under 17 Championship.
In the 13th minute, the Guinea Under 17s took the lead through Sam Diallo, who converted a spot kick, and the scoreline remained the same until eight minutes from time.
The Golden Eaglets’ first real attempt on goal came in the 28th minute through Kelechi Nwakali, and they would have equalized in the 57th minute but missed the opportunity.
On 76 minutes, Victor Osimhen had his shot saved by goalkeeper Moussa Camara.
However, Kelechi Nwakali rescued a point for Nigeria, scoring from the penalty spot in the 82nd minute.
The draw means the Golden Eaglets must win their final fixture against Zambia to be certain of qualifying for the Fifa Under 17s, ignoring the results of games yet to be played by other opponents.
