Alfred Effiong Retained In Malta Squad As Joseph Mbong Is Dropped
Published: March 23, 2015
Malta national team coach, Pietro Ghedin, has named his final squad for the upcoming matches against Georgia and Azerbaijan.
Qormi star Alfred Effiong is primed to make his international debut for the Island Nation, as he was among the players retained.
But Hibernians youngster Joseph Mbong failed to make the squad list that was announced on Sunday, March 22.
Instead, the attacker, who previously starred for the Malta Under 19 squad, has been handed a call - up to the Malta Under 21s.
Alfred Effiong has been in Malta for the past ten years, and is married to a Maltese citizen.
He was issued a Maltese passport on the 26th of February, and can turn out for the country as he has no caps at any level for Nigeria.
