Apex Boys Rattle City Strikers Ahead NNL Opener
Published: May 08, 2015
With barely one week to the kickoff of this season’s re-scheduled football action in the Nigeria National League, NNL slated for May 16, Supreme Court FC of Abuja have confirmed their readiness to stage a stiff challenge against would be opponents in the 2014/15 league season with a 3-1 thrashing of City Strikers.
The Junior team of the same Abuja-based City Strikers had two days ago beaten Nigeria’s Super Falcons 3-2 in a friendly match organized to test the readiness of the country’s most senior female side ahead of their Olympic qualifier clash with Mali.
A total of four goals scored while the encounter between the senior team of City Strikers and Supreme Court FC lasted inside Area 3 pitch in the Nation’s capital were registered in the second half after the first half ended with no goal from either side.
Two goals from petit striker Peter Michael who has already netted over 10 goals in several pre-season matches and one from midfielder Emmanuel Gbemi gifted Apex Boys victory over City Rivals who pulled only one back.
Supreme Court Technical Adviser Fatai Osho who spoke shortly after the encounter declared “We are good to go for the season barring any unforeseen circumstance. Even if you have the team that has won the World Cup, there is still room for improvement.
“We are not oblivion of the fact that we will continue to improve on our performance. Last season was tough for us but we believe that we could go steps further to get to where we didn’t get to.
“Nothing is impossible. My players have remained positive on what we intend to achieve once the season resume.”
For the Proprietor of City Strikers, Mr Akin Adejumo “We have learnt football lessons from Our Opponents today. Yes, our feeder team won Super Falcons but our senior team could not surmount the challenge from Supreme Court FC. We will continue to expose them to much tougher opposition.”
