Women League Boss Applauds FCT FA
Published: May 24, 2015
The Chairman of the Nigeria Women Football League Dilichukwu Onyedinma has commended the FCT Football Association for its initiative in organizing Under 13 Primary Schools Girls Football competition in the Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory.
The NFF Executive Committee member said that the initiative is a well thought out programme, that would encourage the girl child to take to football at the tender age.
She advised other State Football Associations to emulate the FCT, to discover more players for the various national teams.
“The concept of the FCT FA is a noble one. Taking the game to the primary schools, will create all the needed awareness and would go along way in building their interest in the game.
“I would want to implore other states to also endeavour to take the game back to the grassroots to ensure that we caught them young at the primary school level”.
Mrs Onyedinma who is also Chairman of Women Football Development Committee of the NFF said he committee has map out various programmes that would ensure that the game is taken to the grassroots to discover more players for the various national teams in the country.
In her response, the Chairman of the FCT FA Women Football Development Committee, and the initiator of the programme, Barrister Victoria Nlemigbo said the programme is aimed at catching the players young from the grassroots.
“We want to encourage the girl child to play football like their male counterpart. The programme is meant to go round the six Area Councils in FCT, but we started in Gwagwalada, Kuje and Bwari, as a pilot stage.
“But the response we got was unprecedented. The interest was very high, and the girls really showed the zeal.
“We would start that of the three other Area councils now before we play the state finals,” she concluded.
